After creating a slip knot, you usually follow up with chain stitches (ch) and (sts). Again, if you find your chain stitches too tight or even, you can change your hook size to meet the gauge of your particular pattern.
For example, most patterns start with “Ch 5, sc in 2nd ch from hook.” There is no mention of the slip knot, and the author makes many assumptions regarding the instructions and the reader.
Below, you can see the instructions needed to show how to make the slip knot. To create the primary chain, you yarn over the hook and pull the loop made through the loop already on your hook.
